Mobile Sports Betting Is Now Legal In Rhode Island

  • ;Governor Gina Raimondo has signed RI SB 37
  • This now allows mobile sports wagering to take place in Rhode Island
  • The app will go live in the near future

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Governor Gina Raimondo signed a mobile sports wagering bill on Monday that will allow mobile wagering to take place.

At the start of 2019, lawmakers introduced RI SB 37 to bring mobile sports wagering to the state. This bill authorizes the Twin River Casinos to create and distribute an app that will allow people to place their sports bets on their mobile device.

Rules For Mobile Wagering

Residents and tourists cannot immediately get started if they want to use their mobile device to place their bets. The first thing that bettors must do is go to one of the Twin River Casinos in Rhode Island to register for an account. There is no remote registration and that is the only way they can get access to mobile betting.

One of the more important rules that players will have to abide by is that using the app to place their sports bets can only take place in Rhode Island. They cannot leave the state and place their bets. The app will be geofenced around Rhode Island’s borders to track and see if you are in Rhode Island.

More Revenue With Mobile Wagering

The sportsbooks in Rhode Island have seen a great deal of success and excitement over sports betting. This was especially true during the Super Bowl. The handle pushed past $6.5 million after the Super Bowl finished. Although the sportsbooks suffered a loss in revenue due to the fact that most fans wagered on the Patriots to win, this is still a high handle for the smallest state in the United States with only two sportsbooks available.

Allowing for mobile sportsbooks to open will give people in Rhode Island more options for them to place their bets. States that have mobile sports betting apps available are seeing the most amount of revenue come in through these apps. This is especially true for apps that allow you to bet anywhere in the state.

SportsBettingRhodeIsland.com knows there is currently no launch window just yet for mobile sports betting in Rhode Island. Governor Raimondo is hoping that mobile sports betting will allow for the economic benefits of sports betting to occur outside of the Twin River Casinos. She is also very hopeful that out of state visitors will embrace the app and generate more revenue for the state.
